36 Behind The CounTer 2007
S
eabrook Marchant returned
to his native Greenville following
a hitch in the Army and made a
choice that changed the course
of his life. After working briefl y
in the textile industry, he took a
job in residential real estate.
"Greenville was growing," he
said. "It just seemed like a good
business to be in."
In 1993 he founded The
Marchant Company, which
now has 30 agents serving the
Upstate. The company sells
and markets new homes for
builders and developers and
provides general brokerage
services for families buying and
selling homes.
Gordon Seay, who joined the
company at its inception, serves
as the company's Executive Vice
President and General Manager.
Seabrook's son, Brian, joined the
company in 1995 and was recently
named Chief Financial Offi cer and
Vice President. This team enables
Seabrook to do what he does best
develop new business. In addition
to the services provided to builders
and developers, the company
provides traditional representation
for buyers and sellers, and has a
property management division
offering quality rental homes.
The company volunteers with
Meals on Wheels and supports
other nonprofi ts such as the
Meyer Center, Peace Center and
United Way. Marchant is a Habitat
for Humanity board member
and chaired Builders Blitz that
constructed eight homes for
deserving families in one week.
