John Boyanoski covers business. He is a native of Scranton, Pa. and a graduate of Syracuse University's
journalism school where he was named a Newhouse Scholar and won the WJPZ alumni
award. He has written articles for Planning Magazine, Blue Ridge Country, Family
Business, South Carolina, Sandlapper and Our State. He previously covered education
for the Watertown Daily Times in New York and covered colleges at the Herald-Journal
(Spartanburg), where he won a South Carolina Press Association award for spot
news in 1999. Before joining The Journal, he worked for four years at The Greenville
News covering various issues and winning several South Carolina Press Association
Awards. His first book, Ghosts of Upstate South Carolina, will be published by
Shelor and Son Publishing. He lives in the Upstate with his wife Shonda, a free-lance
