Susan Clary Simmons writes editorials and a monthly opinion column for The Journal. A Savannah native, Simmons began her newspaper career at the Augusta (Ga.)
Chronicle, moving to South Carolina in 1979 to work as a Spartanburg bureau reporter
for The Greenville News-Piedmont. In 1981, she moved to Greenville and continued
working for the News-Piedmont until 1996. Her writing credits include news and
political reporting, features and editorial opinion. She has twice won the E.A.
Ramseur award for editorial writing from the South Carolina Press Association.
Simmons is a graduate of Young Harris College and Georgia Southern University,
